If you would like to experience scuba diving but don’t want to commit to full club membership at this time, we would encourage you to take advantage of our try dive scheme.

Minors:

Only those over 16 may be permitted to join the club in their own right. Those under 16 can only be members as part of a family membership. Parents/Guardians must be in attendance at all times to help supervise their children. Please note there are SAA safety restrictions in place for diving by under 18 year olds. These can be viewed on the SAA web site. All our instructors are CRB checked.

SAA Membership:

All diving members and those receiving training have to be a member of a diving organisation. This is for insurance purposes to protect the club and the member.

Training

At the moment we are affiliated to the SAA for training purposes.

Diver Lectures:

Lectures are held at the Dew Drop Inn Ilkeston on Wednesday nights.

Kit Hire:

It is possible to borrow club kit for pool use. For open water kit there is a £20 refundable deposit required. This includes cylinder, regulator, BCD, weight belt & weights, fins, mask and snorkel. Diving kit can  also be easily hired from Stoney Cove or from Go Dive Derby.

Deep Pools:

Kimberley pool is only 2.0m deep which is quite adequate for most training. However as your training progresses we are also able to take trainees to deep water pools to gain further experience before open water diving. These are at Derby or Sheffield.

First Open Water Dives:

In common with many Sub Aqua organisations we use Stoney Cove in Leicestershire for open water training. One of our fully qualified and certified instructors will be available to take you through your instruction and training dives on a one to one basis.

If you have any concerns or would like to discuss a training program, please click on the contacts link above and speak to the club chairman or the training officer.

Medicals:

The system of medicals has been changed recently to one of self assessment. It is sufficient even for new divers to make a self declaration. However, those who have not previously been awarded a certificate of fitness and/or answer yes to any of the questions on the medical form must seek the opinion of a medical referee/diving doctor, before undertaking any diving activities including pool training.

Details can be viewed here.

A medical referee/diving doctor will either endorse a medical declaration or decide if an examination is required before a certificate can be issued.

The SAA medical referee is Dr Clamp at Lowdham. Phone 0115 9663633.

For subsequent years and during the period of medical certification,

a self declaration form must be made annually.

If a medical is required then this must be arranged through a Diving Doctor.

The medical form can be downloaded here
