Ilkeston and Kimberley Sub Aqua Club Supports St Abbs Lifeboat

Ilkeston and Kimberley Sub Aqua Club Support recently held a fund raising social in support of St Abbs Independent Lifeboat. What a fantastic event it was too, well attended by members of the club, families and the wider local community, held in our social base, The Gate Inn Awsworth.

There was lots going on during the evening, the highlight of the entertainment was the fabulous singing quartet of Another Dimension, who not only got into the spirit of the night by appearing in fancy dress for the first set, but also sang a selection of sea shanties and nautically themed songs.

Throughout the evening, we held an auction, presided over by Steve, where there was over £500 worth of lots, all generously donated for auction, by local dive shops, Divemaster Scuba in Nottingham and SDS Watersports from Sheffield and club member Chris Brown-Needham. We also received donations from the SAA and St. Abbs to add to the goodie bag. In addition to this, there was a raffle, stand-up bingo and the “nearest coin to the bottle” game. Definitely a club social highlight, particularly before the dive season gets into full swing (for our national dive sites).

A huge congratulations to Tonya who, not only organised a brilliant night, provided and participated in the entertainment, decorated the room, and brought the club together for a brilliant cause. A special thank you too, to Kim and Steve, from the Gate Inn, for providing the room, staffing the bar all free of charge, and donating further raffle prizes to allow us to round up the total raised.

Many thanks to all who supported this fantastic event, in support of a great cause, which helps to save lives and makes diving safe around the heart of the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve. This was truly a team effort so special mentions to Sarah and Rachel for the delicious buffet, Tracie and John K for the room decoration, Chris for his procurement of auction prizes and personal donations, Steve for his auctioning prowess, Richard for his amazing ticket and posters, Paul C for his bingo and raffle comparing and all club members who kindly donated prizes and supported the event on the night.

The total raised, which will all be going to St Abbs Independent Lifeboat, was a whopping £1018.81!
